Co-lab Co-lab

If you and your coparent are in conflict, there’s a high likelihood that exchanges can be tough when you’re both involved. Here are some quick tips to consider weaving into your exchange days:

  • Have your exchange day(s) + time(s) clearly laid out in your parenting plan

  • Only have two “exchangers” present at the physical exchange - The pick-up person + the drop off person. All others should not come, stay in cars or stay their distance.

  • Before you get out of your vehicle, say your goodbyes to your kiddo(s) AND say one thing positive about their spending time with your coparent.

  • SMILE and say “Hi” to your co-parent when you approach them/they approach you.

    • This is not about you. It’s about your kiddo(s). Your tone to one another and facial expression directly impacts your kiddo(s) experience.

  • Have one backpack that each kiddo brings with them to/from their homes

  • Don’t come within less than 6 feet of your coparent unless you physically need to hand a baby (who cannot walk) to them.
